These gorgeous buttons were handmade from stoneware clay for EweMomma by the lovely Melanie from Cherryhill Studio, who's based in Ballynahinch in Co Down. The buttons are glazed on all sides in a combination of stoneware glazes that have created a unique effect as the glazes combine during firing in the kiln.
These round ceramic buttons feature a Celtic spiral, which comes from Melanie's cherished collection of handcrafted woodblock stamps that she's accumulated over the years. The Celtic Spiral (also known as the Triskele or Triskelion) has come to have a number of meanings. Some believe it to represent the past, present & future; or the link between the spiritual world, the present world and the celestial world; to some it represents maiden, mother & crone. Here in Ireland, it is mostly associated with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and is seen as a symbol of Christianity.
The buttons measure 33mm in diameter and are 4mm thick. The button holes are 2-3mm in diameter.
Stoneware clay is very durable, however hand washing is recommended.
